After much deliberation, by the Dennis Port Revitalization Committee and local artist Hans deCastellane, it was decided that mural #3 in the Pocket Park would be old stores from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s. During this period downtown Dennis Port was the hot spot for shopping in the mid cape area and beyond. We had 3 grocery stores, several retail stores, several restaurants and a number of small businesses. If you go to the photo gallery on this website you will see a number of these old photos. If you have any vintage photos of the downtown area during this time frame and would like to share them and possibly have that photo in the mural please forward the photo/s to firstname.lastname@example.org
Here are a few sample photos from those decades …. Anyone remember Estey’s, First National, Deans Record Shop, Tydol Gas Station, Stop & Shop, Henderson’s Hardware, Appleton’s Hardware, Mabel’s Mixing Bowl, Davenport’s, Pier 11 East Restaurant ( now BZ’s ), The Coffee Shop and many, many more stores. Feel free to send in photos or comment or your memories of the old downtown area.
We have raised $2,400 to date toward the projected cost of $7,500. If you would like to donate toward the mural send a check of any denomination to:
