It was a tough hour and half grilling of the Town Manager, by several members of the Finance Committee ( Fincom ) last night, at a joint meeting of the Selectmen and Fincom. After numerous questions, answers and clarifications from all involved and when the dust settled the Selectmen voted 5-0 to sign the P&S for the old Irving ( Phil Griswold gas station ) at the corner of Upper County and Main St. at the East end of downtown. Several Dennis Port residents were in attendance as well as DPRC members and merchants who spoke in favor of this purchase. This is a major eastern gateway to the Town and Village of Dennis Port. There will be numerous articles and updates as we proceed to Town Meeting on October 27, 2015 at which time it will take a 2/3rds vote of those in attendance to approve the purchase. This is a once in a hundred year opportunity for the Town to purchase this very important parcel of land. By purchasing the property much needed upgrades can be done to the intersection. It can also be a designated safety island with a walkway across the property to get from downtown to the Dollar Store and Job lot. It could be a mini transportation hub for bikers coming down from the north side as well as bikers coming up from the Nantucket Sound hotels.
We would love to hear some ideas from our readers. Just click on the comment button and write your idea for this property. If you are a registered voter in Dennis and believe it is important for the Town to purchase this property, please make an effort to attend and vote at Town Meeting on Oct. 27, 2015.
